The Characteristic of BAC Process on the Advanced Water Treatment

Abstract
To estimate the characteristics of BAC process in advanced water treatment, the Pilot-Plant were used filtrated water as raw water. The GAC and BAC process was operated at 12 minute of EBCT over one year, at 20minute of the ozone contact time, at 1.0㎎/L of ozone concentration. The new concept so as CT value was suggested to estimate the optimum ozone contact condition, ozone concentration and ozone contact time. The optimum CT value of the water quality parameters were 400(1/㎝)/㎎·min of UV254, 6㎎/㎎·min of KMnO4 consumption, 100㎎/㎎·min of ABS and 0.5㎎/㎍·min of THMFP. The biological removal effects were showed in GAC as well as BAC. with comparison of GAC, the improvement of biodegradability on the BAC was 28 percent for THMFP, 31 percent for UV254 and 11 percent for KMnO₄ consumption by ozonation. The improvement of accumulated removal quantity on the BAC was 22 percent for UV254 and 10 percent for ABS and THMFP. But it was insignificant for KMnO₄ consumption. The thermal coefficient of nitrification was 1.143 on the BAC and GAC.
